Planning a trip to see the mayan ruins?

Question: Planning a trip to see the mayan ruins?

(Posted by: on 2012-01-23 15:51:03)

My husband and I are planning a trip to see some of the mayan ruins. We would like to stay in a beachfront resort town, probably Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. We want to take day trips from our resort to see Tulum, Chichen Itza, and either Ek'Balam or Uxmal. Can we stay in one of the resort towns and easily make it to these ruins? I know you can go with a tour group to Chichen Itza, but I can't find a clear answer about the others. We want to be able to get to those places within a few hours of Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. Any information you have from first hand experience would be great. If you have actually been to these destinations, feel free to tell me your experiences. Thanks

There are no ruins near PV..........some reason the locals didn't like the Pacific side............I would do Cancun or even better Playa del carmin....much better than Cancun in my opinion...........close to Tulum and Chichen Itza............Chichen Itza as cool as it is it is full of vendors.........they are EVERYWHERE.............you can rent a car and drive there.......be sure to get a guide at each ruin............Tulum in my opinon is worth it.............

You can take tours to chichen itza and tulum from cancun/ playa del carmen (playa del carmen has prettier beaches but is very close to cancun) and ive dnoe this...they were great. Takes a few hours to get there by air conditioned bus and guides are very informative. i booked directly from my hotel but there are also tour companies that aren't attached to individual hotels this website mentions ek'balam cancun-discounts.com/ ek-balam.htm it fact it seems you can combine it with chichen itza on a 12 hour day trip i never heard of it personally, the majority of websites i have found don't seem to mention it but is worth a look! Hope you have a lovely holiday!
