I want to visit Mexico this year and more than the night life and staying at the resort, I am interested in visiting the Mayan ruins and how close I would have to travel to get there. Any advice on which one is closer, Cancun or Acapulco? and what resort is the place to go now a days??

I am traveling to Cancun area in May and am wondering what ruins you can still climb and also this might sound morbid I was wondering which sites have the rocks where they had sacrifices and that is still stained with blood. I just find it interesting that after so many years there is still blood stained there.

i don't mind having to pay, i just meant ones that are less popular so there would be less people. if some like that even exists, i don't know.

Planning a trip to see the Mayan ruins?
My husband and I are planning a trip to see some of the mayan ruins. We would like to stay in a beachfront resort town, probably Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. We want to take day trips from our resort to see Tulum, Chichen Itza, and either Ek'Balam or Uxmal. Can we stay in one of the resort towns and easily make it to these ruins? I know you can go with a tour group to Chichen Itza, but I can't find a clear answer about the others. We want to be able to get to those places within a few hours of Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. Any information you have from first hand experience would be great. If you have actually been to these destinations, feel free to tell me your experiences. Thanks
